Yassin, Who Scanned the Bible Page by Page

Yassin painstakingly scanned the pages of the entire Bible with his phone, one page at a time.

Your first encounters with the Bible may have been at home, reading Bible stories with your parents or grandparents. Perhaps you eventually upgraded to a leather Bible with tabs and gilded pages. How do you read the Bible now? Even if you still like paper best, you can probably appreciate the convenience of being able to access the Bible through your phone or mobile device. You can pull up the Bible wherever you are and even read it in the dark.

In some parts of the world, digital scripture has additional advantages. It’s accessible where paper Bibles may be hard to get, and it’s easier to conceal from those who might oppose your interest in the Word of God.

Yassin’s First Bible

Like Bakeer from our last story, Yassin was a young man hungry to learn. His path toward faith was also sparked by something that happened in the classroom. But his story was also different. Yassin was still a schoolboy when he got a Bible from a Christian teacher.

God was already tugging at Yassin’s heart, and he knew he wanted to read the Bible. But since he was part of a community that looked down on Christians and Christianity, he knew he could get in trouble if he was found reading it.

That’s why Yassin painstakingly scanned the pages of the entire Bible with his phone, one page at a time. He kept it all on his phone so that he could read it at any time. And this planted a seed.

The Seed Grows and Bears Fruit

When Yassin was old enough to start university, he took advantage of his new freedom to explore Christianity. He found our outreach website and soaked in all he could learn. He asked to meet with one of our workers face to face, and they started a Bible study together.

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
—Isaiah 55:10-11

Today, Yassin is a believer and has been baptized. But just as he feared, he got in trouble for reading the Bible. His family threatened to disown him if he told anyone about his new faith. This is one reason we need to keep finding ways to make the Bible available in digital forms. God is already stirring people’s hearts. They need a way to confidentially access His Word. Please pray for Yassin and that God would lead more people like him to Himself.
